Many saw it coming, and sure enough the hit movie "The Thieves" have stolen the top spot to become the most watched Korean movie of all time.
The movie drew in a record of 13,020,393 people in just 70 days, breaking the previous record which was held by "The Host" in 2006 with 13,019,740 people in 106 days. "The Thieves" had also broken past the 5 million admissions mark in 10 days and 10 million admissions in 22 days. Despite having played for 70 days, the movie can still be watched at 76 theatres across the country.
In terms of how much in sales "The Thieves" has raked in, the current total stands at 93,561,965,000 won (roughly $84 million). This puts it ahead of "The Host" with 78.5 billion won (roughly $70 million), and "Haeundae" with 81.9 billion won (roughly $73 million).
The all-time record (Korean films and foreign films) is held by "Avatar" with 13.3 million admissions.
