SISTAR, "Diet? We Can't Sing Without Food"

On July 4, girl group SISTAR was interviewed after their performance Mnet "M! Countdown."

For a late lunch and an early dinner during the interview, SISTAR members visited a Korean restaurant. The members showed frank and genuine sides as they talked freely about topics that crossed their minds and as they scooped big spoonfuls of food from their bowls. This genuinity is something not easily shown in girl groups, but was possible because it was SISTAR.

Dasom said, "To show a healthy image, we just have to eat. We can't sing without food. We do get something called 'camera massage,' so we don't gain as much weight as we used to." Soyoo said, "We don't gain weight, but we don't lose either."

Kickstarter Drama, American Version of 'Boys Over Flowers'? Probably Not.

The Japanese manga "Hana Yori Dango" by Yoko Kamio has so far been made into a Japanese feature film, the Taiwanese "Meteor Garden" dramas, Korea's "Boys Over Flowers" and the Japanese "Hana Yori Dango" series. All of the series have been wildly successful, launching the careers of the actors who starred in them.

It's a Cinderella story, in which a tough but likable heroine defends others and takes a stand. The poor girl meets a rich arrogant guy, stands up to his threats when no one else will and in return he falls in love with her. It must strike a chord with women because "Hana Yori Dango "is the best selling shojo manga or girl comic of all time.

Like Us on Facebook :

That may be why one company is trying to raise money to produce an American version. A company known as Wazego Collective is attempting to raise funds through the Kickstarter online fundraising program and hopes to air their series later this year on Roku.

They are looking for funding of up to $250,000 that will go toward casting actors, paying for permits, locations and editing. They already have a crew and the promise of investment funds if they can raise the outside capital. They also have a script, casting dates and half their locations.

According to the collective site, "The series is a gripping, funny and unique romantic comedy series that shows that girls can't be pushed around. It delivers a positive message and needs to be shared with the American audience."

The collective describes itself as manga and drama fans and promises to do a faithful job. They do not plan to cast any big stars in the series and will only use rookie actors.

"We promise to do it properly without the common Hollywood thread of changing everything about a series to suit Hollywood instead of the current fan base."

The Kickstarter fundraising project will only continue if they can raise $100,000 by a certain day.

Netizens responded to the idea of an Americanized "Boys Over Flowers" with mixed feelings. One netizen said she watched kdramas because they were so innocent and worried that in attempting to Americanize the show, the story would lose that innocence.

For many fans who have seen all the versions, the Korean version was the best adaptation and no matter how careful the collective is to minimize changes, Americanizing the drama would mean there was no kimchi and no piggyback rides. That would be sad. On the other hand, the show does deliver a positive message that girls of all cultures might benefit from.

The collective has less than a week to raise the money. So far they are nowhere close.

Kim Hyun Joong Comes Back To Drama, Almost

Kim Hyun Joong fans may want to celebrate today. The singer and actor just got the offer and is seriously considering to play a leading role in "Inspiring Generation," his first drama in three years. And true to form his new role was inspired by a manga, which has been the case with every drama he has starred in or wanted to star in until now.

Kim, who is the lead rapper for the band SS501, became a kdrama star when he played Yoon Ji Hoo in the 2009 drama "Boys Over Flowers," which was adapted from the  Japanese manga "Hana Yori Dango," For that drama he received both Best Actor and Popularity awards.

Then he played Baek Seung Jo, the genius at everything but relationships, in "Playful Kiss," which was also based on a Japanese manga "Itazura Na Kiss."

Like Us on Facebook :

For his third role, he was planning to act in yet another drama based on a manga. The drama "City Conquest" was adapted from the Korean manga of the same name by Shin Hyung Bin. In that drama, he was going to play Baek Mir, a boy who was abandoned when young. His character was angry with the parents who abandoned him and upset by the injustice of his nation's officials. He wanted to change the world with his fists.

The drama was in production but never got a time slot and so was cancelled. No explanation was given as to why it was denied a time slot.

For his new role, Kim Hyun Joong has chosen another drama based on a manga. "Inspiring Generation," which takes place in 1930 Shanghai. In this role Kim Hyun Joong will get to use his fists again as he plays Sin Jeong Tae, a backstreet fighter.

Kim Hyun Joong did not have to learn how to fight in acting school. When he was young, the high school dropout often wound up in the police station for fighting. Fortunately, he started a band and his life went in another direction. After performing with SS501, the singer also launched an international solo career and is very popular in Japan.

He is also a big fan of mangas. When appearing in "Boys Over Flowers," he read much of the original manga. And rumors said he tried to buy the film rights to the Japanese manga "Berserk."

Kim Jong Goo will direct. He previously directed "Call of My Country," "The Man Who Can't Get Married" and "Sweet 18."  No leading actress has yet been cast.

Does Lee Jong Suk-Lee Bo Young Starrer Drama 'I Hear Your Voice' Deserve An Extension?

"I Hear Your Voice" is one of the summer's must-watch dramas. But, as is often the case with a successful drama, the producers are thinking about changing it. With ratings nearing the 20 percent mark, the show's producers are currently considering whether to extend the planned 16 episodes to 18 episodes.

According to representative from SBS, nothing has been decided yet.

"There have been discussions, but these discussions always come up, even for other dramas," said the representative.

Like Us on Facebook :

The final decision will be up to writer Park Hye Ryun, who has crafted an enjoyable puzzle of a story. The series, which stars Lee Bo Young, Lee Jong Suk and Yoon Sang Hun, combines courtroom drama with romance and the supernatural. The brisk pace of the drama's plot is designed to keep viewers guessing what might happen next. So far, there hasn't been a dull moment or a slow scene. Can writer Park Hye Run add two more hours worth of drama and still keep audiences entertained?

Shooting any additional episodes will also have to fit in with the actors' schedules. For example, Lee Jong Suk will soon need to be on the set of the film "Hot Blooded Youth," in which he will co-star with Park Bo Young. The much-in-demand young actor has also signed on for "No Breathing," a film about swimming, with co-star Seo In Guk. His popularity got an extra boost from his role in "I Hear Your Voice."

When they extend a drama, producers think of it as fan service, a way to give fans a little something extra. But while some fans are happy that the show might be extended by a few more episodes, others say that doing so will only detract from what has so far been a neatly constructed plot. That has been the case in some other popular dramas that got extra episodes.

For example, "Princess Hours" with Yoon Eun Hye and Ju Ji Hoon got bumped from 20 to 24 episodes. While "Princess Hours" was a very entertaining drama, netizens commented that a few episodes toward the end dragged on. The drama "Missing You" with Yoon Eun Hye and Park Yoo Chun was extended by an extra episode but critics said that episode just added unnecessary plot complications.

Do you have an opinion about adding episodes in general? Or about adding episodes to "I Hear Your Voice." Let us know.

2NE1 To Perform On 'Music Core' For The First Time In 2 Years

It did not come as a shock to many when 2NE1's latest single "Falling In Love" shot to the top of the charts after its release on July 8. The wildly popular girl group had not released a new single in a year and fans were eagerly waiting for it to drop.

It also was not a big surprise when their label, YG Entertainment decided to hold the comeback stage on Inkigayo the day before the track officially dropped - they always seem to be testing out new promotion ideas (such as with the initial release of G-Dragon's "MichiGO").

But what did catch many off guard was the announcement Thursday morning that 2NE1 will be appearing on MBC's Music Core this weekend on the July 13 episode.

Like Us on Facebook :

It has been nearly two years since the girl group appeared on the program and their return to the stage will follow a Thursday appearance on Mnet's M! Countdown.

For the past two years YG Entertainment artists have refrained from participating in many music and variety shows following reported disagreements with the major networks KBS and MBC. Although, today's announcement appears to signify that the conflict with MBC has since been resolved.

2NE1 came out with "Falling In Love" earlier this week and have announced plans to release several more singles from now until October in preparation for their new album later this year.
