On June 23rd, MBC successfully completed their ‘MBC Korean Culture Festival in London 2012‘ in celebration of the 2012 London Olympics at the O2 Indigo in the London Millennium Park.
Sponsored in collaboration with MBC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the concert saw the attendance of over 2,500 K-Pop lovers. The concert was held to spread the love of Korean music and culture just 34 days until the London Olympics are scheduled to be held.
‘Dynamic Korea’ opened up the concert, followed by a performance from EXO-K . Various cultural and traditional shows like the ‘samulnori’, a fusion ‘kukak’ performance, and a ‘hanbok’ fashion show were shown, as well as performances by the European champion team from the K-Pop cover dance competition, and finally a performance by 4minute and Norazo , all of which earned cheers from the audience.
EXO-K in particular earned widespread support despite it just being three months into their debut. MBC’s ‘News Desk ‘ reported, “The loud cheers that were made for rookie group EXO-K showed that K-Pop had already created a foundation in the lives of the European youth.”
Leader Suho commented, “This concert allowed us to realize that our K-Pop seniors had created such a strong influence on Europe. We’ll work harder to live up to expectations.”
The concert will be produced into a special documentary made for broadcast mid-July.
