[Interview Part 1] Park Jin Young – “I Plan to Be an Actor For Life”

Is there another person like this? Going from singer to producer to composer and even after that an actor. This is Park Jin young. Park Jin Young who grew a taste for acting after the drama Dream High has now gone for the big screen with Five Million Dollar Man. He isn’t even a supporting actor but the movie’s lead.
In the movie Park Jin Young plays Choi Young In who has everything as the vice president of a big company.
At the command of his boss Han Sang Moo, he is on his way to deliver 5 million dollars when things began to unravel and he begins being chased. In addition to Park Jin Young the movie stars Jo Sung Ha, Min Hyo Rin and more and is a comedy movie. Enews met with Park Jin Young to talk about the movie.

I know it’s been a long time since you’ve done a personal interview. You didn’t even do interviews for your recent album. It’s rather unusual you would do an interview for the movie.“As it is my first attempt [in shooting a movie] I want to do my best. I don’t think I’ve had my picture taken and interview done in some 10 years. I like movies and I enjoy talking about movies. Since I talk about movies privately too it’s all right. But shooting pictures is a little bit hard.”
A lot of people are wondering why you decided to star in a movie.
“The offer came in first from writer Chun Sung Il. I’m amazed too at why the offer came to me. Chun Sung Il told me he wrote the scenario with me in mind and that I seemed like I would be humorous. Whenever I find something funny or makes my heart race I go for it.”
What movies did you enjoy recently?
The Artist, The Taste of Money and The King’s Concubine. The Artist I enjoyed since it took a familiar story and made it fun. What I think is a real work of art is when someone expresses something differently or does something that no one has done before. The dialogue-less movie’s use of expressions and exquisite details was very note-worthy. The way director Kim Dae Seung portrayed the events of The King’s Concubine was amazing.”
You are an artist. Do you create things on the basis of what others haven’t done before and what you can express differently?
“That’s right. Byul’s December 32nd I wrote on waiting to express the date December 32nd. Rain’s How to Avoid the Sun I wrote to express in a new way of two broken up lovers who want to forget each other but can’t. The songs I wrote to express things others haven’t include Park Ji Yoon’s Adult Ceremony, The House You Live In, I Have a Woman, Elevator and more.”

Speaking of lyrics, do you write lyrics that are personal?“About half is my story, 30 percent is the story of others, 20 percent is my imagination. The songs I write based on personal experiences come out the best. I really hate ‘fakeness’. It’s rather better that it’s true but awkward. Even when writing one comes to question oneself if this is true."
"When I judged SBS’ K-Pop Star that was a criteria of my judgment too. In acting it’s the same. Though I appeal to the masses, it all begins from the heart. It starts from the heart to your mind. If it starts from your heart but only goes to your heart it can fail to appeal to the public. If it begins from the mind though, it’s fake.”
Do you have dreams about your acting career? Is this a onetime thing?
“If I didn’t think I was going to be doing this for life I wouldn’t even be doing this interview. If another movie casting offer comes in I’m thinking I will do it no matter what. I’m just worried another movie offer won’t be coming in. I’m thankful to director Kim Ik Ro and writer Chun Shung il for my first movie casting offer but I’ll be extremely thankful to those that offer me my second movie casting offer.”
What sort of role do you want to portray next?
“I want to be an actor that expresses complex emotions. A villainous role sounds fun too. It’s actually people who look like me that have a greater range of roles. Just like Jack Nicholson.”
